IGHS at Coimbra Invest Summit 2023

For 3 days, almost fifty companies and institutions participated in a showcase for the most varied businesses, at Convento São Francisco, in Coimbra.

The Coimbra Invest Summit aims to position the city on investors' radar, strengthening the business synergies and leveraging new opportunities.

In addition to being present at the Companies and Institutions Exhibition, IGHS was also invited to be part of the speakers panel under the theme: Coimbra IS Health, which featured José Alexandre Cunha, Chairman of IGHS, as a speaker. In a dynamic interaction, he shared the past, the present and the challenges, within a scope of competitiveness and resilience in the health sector.

Other speakers of this panel were: Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Sofia Viana, from HaPILLness and Joaquim Silva Nunes, from Olympus Medical Products.

In the different areas of activity, everyone was unanimous in stating that the city of Coimbra develops skills. And, if IGHS Group idea of building a private hospital from scratch was seen as ambitious at the beginning, it is now a living proof that there are people, companies and entities capable of materialising value in the municipality.

José Alexandre Cunha guarantees that when facing difficulties, gathering the right knowledge with great partnerships is the most successful way to break new ground. These routes took companies from the region, like IGHS, to go beyond borders to very different economies and cultures, such as Asia or the Middle East.

But there is also recognition of the region, as we can see through the investment created 12 months ago in Coimbra,  by the Japanese company Olympus.

The Faculty of Medicine has been focusing on different strategies to become a focal point in global health. Carlos Robalo Cordeiro guarantees that research, pedagogy and the desire to achieve more are daily premises for Coimbra to be a cluster in technology and health.

Always with a broad vision of identifying the future, researcher Sofia Viana developed HaPILLness, a semi-solid matrix technology, in this case, medicated gums, now patented, a product that allows animals to be used in the laboratory without suffering nor stress.

At the end of the panel, the Minister of Economy, António Costa Silva, challenged entities and companies to create synergies. He guarantees that there are values and human capital to create wealth, at an international level, with Portuguese products.

The 1st Edition of the Coimbra Invest Summit 2023, that gathered thousands of visitors, celebrated the valuable contribution of the local companies to business growth, where IGHS is also positioned, on a global scale.
